Using Hidden Flight
Test version 0.7.4. Compare a limited set of regular and hidden-city flight options while using Google Flights.
Get started
- Enable Hidden Flight and allow site access on www.google.com.
- Open an English Google Flights one-way or round-trip search for one adult in Economy, with currency explicitly set to USD and no checked bags.
- The HF badge appears at the bottom right for resolved U.S. domestic searches and checks supported routes automatically. International and unknown routes stay hidden. Open it to see status or turn automatic checks off.
- Click the toolbar icon to open the search workspace. Keep its Google Flights source tab open while searching.
City groups and tickets found elsewhere
Select a destination city’s “all airports” choice to compare each included airport. Imports preserve the complete destination group. An exact code such as SFO means only that airport. Google city-origin searches include every supported airport in the city, including JFK, LGA and EWR for New York. Exact airport selections stay exact. The standalone workspace still requires one departure airport. Skiplagged city-origin links use the clicked ticket’s actual departure airport.
Use “Find a Skiplagged route on the airline” to check a complete ticketed route. Full one-way Skiplagged links import the route and date only; enter the skipped destination and other details yourself. Returned prices come from Google, not a verified airline checkout. The airline search link opens the full ticketed destination; select matching flights and compare the final total, bags and fare conditions on the airline site. Skiplagged fees or discounts are not assumed or deducted.
Floating Skiplagged companion
Allow site access and refresh Skiplagged after installing. Click a readable domestic one-way flight card to open the compact floating panel and check that ticket on Google. Clicking another flight switches the panel. The yellow badge sits at the bottom left, clear of the usual price column. Drag the header to move the panel and use its minus button to minimize. Extra information is tucked into Details & options.
Regular and hidden-city tickets are supported, including results beyond the first five and flights loaded as you scroll. Changing a supported route or date refreshes the context. The first detected ticket may check automatically; other tickets check when clicked. Turn off initial automatic checks in Details & options. Incomplete, unknown and international routes remain unsupported. No buttons are inserted under flight cards.
When a hidden-city card cannot be read, expand its details so the full skipped segment is visible. Live website changes may affect detection. Summary-card comparisons use route, airline and departure time, plus flight numbers when available. Full segment details enable the exact lookup described below. Neither path verifies the final airline checkout price.
Open selected flights
The panel offers “View flight on Google” for a matched itinerary. Complete source details can open an exact selection without a previous quote token; broad-search matches use Google’s returned flight numbers, dates and quote token. Choose the airline fare to continue to its booking page. Compare the displayed flight numbers with the original ticket. A route/time match alone does not prove every flight is identical. The separate airline route-search button is a fallback and does not select flights.
If the extension loses its background connection, reload it at chrome://extensions, then refresh Skiplagged. Supported searches can be reached from the homepage without a full page reload and trailing-slash URLs.
Check your selected Google flight
Open a flight’s details or booking-options page on Google, then open the yellow badge and click Check selected flight. The check keeps the selected marketing airline, flight numbers, airports and segment dates. Other departure times cannot replace it. If the selected flight is missing from Google’s returned data, the panel reports that instead of choosing another flight. Choosing a different flight clears the previous result.
Compare a round trip
The Google Flights floating panel checks outbound and return separately. Any selected flights stay selected for their respective direction. Results are two independent one-way tickets, with separate recheck buttons and booking links. The featured total requires at least one hidden-city ticket and usable arrival/return timing. Two regular fares appear only as a comparison reference; they are never presented as a hidden-city combination. Airline filters from each direction are retained. Different arrival and return-departure airports are flagged. The timing check allows a minimum two-hour gap at the same airport or four hours for different airports; it does not plan ground transport or guarantee a feasible transfer. Confirm the complete schedule yourself.
Google’s initial round-trip price is labeled a starting fare because the return still needs selection. A selected round trip is not assigned an invented combined Google price. If either separate ticket changes price, rerun the comparison. Keep any return on a separate reservation from a ticket with a skipped leg. The standalone workspace and Skiplagged companion remain one-way; these round-trip controls are on Google Flights.
While a scan runs
Options appear as Google returns them. The progress bar counts completed route checks; preparation and any remaining trip comparisons have separate stages. Use Stop scan to stop processing further results. Shown prices are not rechecked during the scan, and unfinished workspace cards cannot open a booking flow.
Understand the result
A green saving is a candidate found among the routes checked. Recheck it before opening a booking search, and confirm the exact itinerary, bags, ticket conditions, and total price on the provider's site. A red result means the regular fare beats the checked candidates. It does not establish that no cheaper hidden-city ticket exists. Incomplete checks remain neutral.
Hidden-city routes may include a connection before the airport where you leave the trip. The full ticket continues to another destination. Search coverage is limited; different providers can show different itineraries, prices, fees, or discounts. Hidden Flight does not guarantee the cheapest fare or provide verified buy/wait predictions.
If the badge is missing or a check stalls
- After updating an unpacked extension, reload it on chrome://extensions and refresh Google Flights.
- Confirm Google Flights site access is enabled and the extension is not disabled.
- Complete any Google verification in the Google tab, then retry. Do not keep retrying a blocked request.
- For unresolved places, wait for flight results or select exact airports in the workspace.
- Multi-city trips, other passenger/cabin combinations, and non-USD or unconfirmed currency are outside automatic-check coverage. Round-trip comparison is available on Google Flights; the Skiplagged companion and workspace remain one-way.
Before booking a hidden-city ticket
Skipping a segment can conflict with an airline's ticket conditions. Remaining flights on the same ticket may be canceled; checked or gate-checked bags may continue to the ticketed destination; disruptions may reroute you around the airport where you intended to leave. Carry-on availability is not guaranteed. Review the airline's conditions and the full ticket's destination and entry requirements before booking.
The extension does not book flights, offer booking protection, or establish that a travel plan complies with airline or website terms. Its Google Flights connection is unofficial and may stop working.
Exact ticket lookup on Skiplagged
Open a flight’s full details, including its skipped segment. When every flight number and segment departure date is readable, Hidden Flight looks up that complete selection on Google without requiring a previous quote. Overnight date markers are retained. An exact match requires Google’s returned flight numbers, airports and dates; the URL alone is not proof. The quoted provider and fare type appear with the price. Open Google and choose the airline’s booking option to continue.
An unavailable itinerary, changed schedule, verification request or unreadable response is shown separately. Review or retry instead of treating it as a confirmed match. If full segment details cannot be read, the limited broad-search comparison remains available. Booking-ID-only pages and mixed-carrier Skiplagged details remain unsupported. Hidden Flight does not guarantee a lower price, an airline booking option, or an immediately purchasable ticket.
Search limits
Google one-way checks use at most 100 requests per scan; round-trip checks use at most 140; workspace scans use at most 200, with three requests in flight at once. Skiplagged ticket checks use at most 12 requests and two at once. Retries count toward these limits. A scan that reaches its limit is incomplete, not proof that a cheaper route does not exist. Skiplagged quotes are reused for up to ten minutes; prices can change sooner.
Report a problem
Send the beta distributor or the developer contact on the store listing: the extension version, route and departure date, Google Flights search URL, fare preference and currency, displayed result, and a screenshot of the discrepancy. Remove names, booking references, account details, and payment information. Reports are not uploaded automatically.
